Hive mothers are 12 feet across, and covered in spiny plates of chiting and bone. The front of the sphere is dominated by a single huge eye above a fang-lined mouth, and its ten smaller eyes, recessed in bony protective hoods, are scattered over the upper surface of the sphere.
