I've written a script that I had the crew memorize by rote, but so many people with so many different languages and dialects arrive at the ship to get water. I posted a sign that clearly states 1 Raptor Buck per 1 Liter of water in a picture format, in AR as well. Yet, the local populace seems to want to barter for every last drop, which almost always goes out of the language scripts. I'll need to figure out some way to bypass the language barrier. "What the corporations do not own, the Lagos Council runs." That's a common saying among the Yoruba in Lagos, and it's fairly true.

The Lagos Council consists of powerful individuals who represent the strongest non-corporate factions of Lagos. At first glance, it seems to be a not-so-secret society of illuminates that govern Lagos with puppetry and ivory tower detachment. After all, the members are not elected, they have no term limits, and they have no recognized set of laws or statutes.

However, it seems to work just like any other elected body of politicians, as the members seem to be in the Council to line their own pockets and squabble over pointless increments of power and prestige. The interests of their own factions are barely a consideration, and the city itself can burn in hell as long as the council members are well-fed and prosperous. They put the minimum amount of effort to keep the city running and profitable.

Global Sandstorm is a AA corporation that operates mainly out of the Middle East. It specializes in construction and petrochemicals. It is owned by the al-Shammar family; the most powerful man in this family is named Aziz Ibn Yusuf al-Shammar (rumored to be an ally of the late Ibn Eisa, as well as instrumental in much of the chaos in the Middle East after the Crash 2.0). The stock of Global Sandstorm has recently soared due to the success of the Lagos oil pipeline.

Global Sandstorm was formed in October 2064 from the merger of Sandstorm Engineering and Global Oil (System Failure, p 110). In December of 2064, after the death of Ibn Eisa, Global Sandstorm was rewarded by the Caliphate with several seats on Arabia's Islamic-Corporate Coordination Board. Global Sandstorm bought out Arabian Futures and many other Middle Eastern companies, and became the largest corporate power in the Middle East.

Global Sandstorm pours a lot of nuyen into maintaining agreements with local Nigerian Kings and factions, in order to continue to have unfettered access to oil. They are the largest employer of mercenaries in Nigeria

Global Sandstorm was involved in ending the Seven King War in Lagos when [[Oni Adegoke]] brokered a deal to gain military support from Global Sandstorm in 2068.

I have begun my water purification project in earnest. I called up Ekwueme to acquire the necessary workshop materials. He seemed to be relieved that I wasn't pestering him with news about Operation Raptor Bucks. It didn't take long to install the distillation and filtering apparatus. After a few problems with barnacles (I was amazed to find out that there was an Awakened barnacle and that it was tougher to remove from the ship's hull than a regular barnacle. We used a welding laser.), we were able to use a desalination setup to change common seawater into drinkable water. Our first gallons of purified water were sprayed on each other and around the ship in celebration. The YDU seemed pleased that they had fresh and drinkable water for almost no effort.

I also visited some local stores selling home amenities. I tried to set up a store front that would make people feel at home. The docks seem to be quite safe compared to the rest of Lagos (at least, the rest not owned by rich people), which should attract customers.

With Raptor Bucks on a roll, I've decided that everyone who comes to the SS Lollipop with Raptor Bucks can turn in the Raptor Bucks for pure water. Well, mostly pure. I still haven't gotten that lemon taste out of it yet.

The language barrier continues to be a problem. I've written a script that I had the crew memorize by rote, but so many people with so many different languages and dialects arrive at the ship to get water. I posted a sign that clearly states 1 Raptor Buck per 1 Liter of water in a picture format, in AR as well. Yet, the local populace seems to want to barter for every last drop, which almost always goes out of the language scripts. I'll need to figure out some way to bypass the language barrier. For now, I've hired a couple of the local kids as translators.

We witnessed our first water riot in the first week of distribution. I stopped it in its tracks by walking down the docks and stabbing the instigators. With the shock blades, of course. I don't want to kill them in broad daylight in front of dock security. It seems that the local gangs and factions really don't like each other. I'll have to find out how to make the place a bit more neutral.
